This patient is a 14 year old female with progressive and worsening spinal curvature.
Bracing did not successfully reduce her spinal deformity, and she was growing particularly concerned about the appearance of her back.
Upon having the patient bend forward, profound rightward rotation was noted in the patient’s thoracic spine. Plain x-rays revealed a profound spinal curvature.
She was diagnosed with progressive adolescent idiopathic scoliosis; the main thoracic curve is measured at 68-degrees.)
The patient underwent corrective surgery on her back with placement of screws and rods.
The patient reported feeling taller and more confident after surgery. She returned to school and regular activities 2 weeks after surgery.
